It does not matter how an AI-related task arrives on the desk. It may arrive by necessity or by choice. It may use internal or external design and implementation resources. It may come as a company-wide program or as a "one-time" experimental project. What matters is how executives approach it.

This book argues for one approach. Approach AI top-down, from the Enterprise Architecture level — Motivational, through Business, Application, and Technology layers.

This is not a preference. It is the rational approach when resources are limited — and they always are. Human, financial, knowledge, and time resources are always limited. Handing an AI task to a tech expert who lacks the "big picture" — where the AI will benefit most — simply burns several of the resources just mentioned.

The approach is the Control Gradient: three control layers — HITL, HOTL, HOOTL — that extend Classic Enterprise Architecture with continuous, machine-speed control of AI deployments while keeping human authority over every consequential decision. Grounded in classical control theory. Ends with a four-phase implementation roadmap.
